From Pastor J’s Desk
These are exciting times in the life of our congregation. How good is the God we serve who has allowed this church to stand for seventy years? How awesome is the God who has kept, protected and made provision for this church when found surrounded by situations and circumstances that could have been certain death? The God that I speak of is the one and only true and living God.
In this 70th church anniversary celebration it is imperative that we realize we are not still standing by luck. It is not a matter of coincidence that while so much of the city of Charlotte has changed almost beyond recognition, that Grier Heights Presbyterian Church (GHPC) and the Grier Heights community yet remains. It is for such a time as this that this church has been preserved.
When we, people of faith, consider the numbers 7, 70 and their Biblical implications of perfection and completion, I am convinced that this congregation is standing on the precipice of a powerful move of God. For Seventy years GHPC, you have experienced a mixture of good times, trying times, lean times and prosperous times. All of these times have been in the hands of God. All of these times have prepared you for the ministry and mission that lie ahead. Look around GHPC, God is doing “New Things”! Can you see it? Let us, “Embrace the New Season”!
God is calling us to a deeper commitment to the “New Thing” that God wants to do in us and through us. GHPC, you have completed your years of preparation for graduation to do greater works in the immediate and local communities.
Let us move forward with great expectation to accomplish great things for our God. In deed, the joy of the Lord is our strength!
